Artivism

LaShondra the Artisvist

I am an artivist, an artist, educator, and leader who uses creative practice as a catalyst for justice, dialogue, and collective responsibility. As a Co-Director of the African American Theatre Program (AATP), I cultivate spaces where culturally responsive storytelling and community engagement intersect. My leadership centers amplifying historically underrepresented voices while building meaningful partnerships that extend beyond the stage.

My work in youth arts and justice is rooted in the belief that young people deserve platforms to process the world around them through creativity. Whether guiding students in transforming social movements into performance or creating structured spaces for civic expression, I use theatre as both a mirror and a movement. Art becomes a safe yet powerful container for truth-telling, healing, and empowerment.

Inspired by Amanda Gorman’s words, “If I choose not to speak out of fear, then there’s no one that my silence is standing for. All art is political. The decision to speak is a conscious one; the choice to lend my voice or body to any body of work must be intentional,” I approach every project with purpose. For me, art is never passive. It is an intentional act of service, stewardship, and social change.
